Welcome to the opening day of Wish Upon A Star Blog Hop!
Hosted by Carol from Just Let Me Quilt, this hop will showcase beautiful projects featuring "stars" today through May 25th.
pssst....there's a giveaway at the end of this post,
but don't miss the pretty pictures along the way!
My star table topper happened when I had many leftover HSTs from my Easter table runner.
I loved the colors and fabrics and rather than store them into a bag, I used them!
I was inspired by the Lone Star block pattern that is so popular.
Once the blocks were arranged and sewn together,
I moved onto the task of adding the side strips.
I wanted only one star in the center as this was the focus.
This meant pulling fabrics from my stash. My beloved Joel Dewberry fabrics fit right in!
I free-motion quilted the topper using a clam-shell design.
Nope, it's not perfect. I'm not into that. :)
I also used a pretty fabric piece from my stash for the backing. and a light green for the binding.
Using this on my dining table following Easter still kept me in the Spring mood and lead us right into Mother's Day.
I set my Mom's musical teapot and her doily on top to give her a place at the table.
She's been gone almost 9 years, but still feels so close!
My star table topper measures 22" x 33" and is a perfect size for several spots in my home!
I hope you've enjoyed your stop here on the blog hop!

ReplyDeleteHi Kathy,
ReplyDeleteOh, this is such a wonderful topper to highlight your mom's teapot and doily! Oddly enough, they were the two things I admired first in your photo in spite of how pretty your topper is. I wonder if your mom made the doily? And what a great use of some leftover HSTs from another project - the colors are so happy. It is a great project to share with us! Happy Monday! ~smile~ Roseanne

ReplyDeleteWhat a great way to use up left over blocks. Its beautiful.
ReplyDeleteA beautiful table topper and a nice way to use up orphan blocks into a bigger block and into a quilt. I love the doily/teapot. I'm glad you miss and honor your mother. My mother has been gone since almost Christmas 1999 and even though she was my mother, I don't miss hearing her negativity to me all of my life. She sure had a favoritism to her middle child to the detriment to the other two of us. I have to realize that she did the best she could and then put in a box where I visit it very rarely. Thanks for honoring your wonderful sounding mom. I adore the star.
ReplyDeleteSooo pretty! And the clam shell quilting looks almost perfect to me!! xx
ReplyDeleteLove your comment that you are "not into perfection". It's so good to know ourselves and go from there, isn't it? Your table topper looks great to me!
ReplyDeleteP.S. My mom is a "Hazel's daughter", too, as are two of my aunts. :)
