RSC August: Aqua/Teal and Table Scraps Challenge

August's RSC color was teal/aqua/turquoise...or any of those colors that aren't quite green or quite blue.

It's a pretty color to me, and I think I need to work it into more of my projects.

I was fresh out of ideas with this project, so I piled my scraps and just started sewing them into strips, trimming each to 2.5".
Sewing like this is so freeing, isn't it?

Just put the pedal to the metal.

The strips were randomly dispersed and laid out next to each other like
friends on the beach.

I miss the beach!

Narrow line stitching was the quilt "design" to give it a modern look.
No measuring, but using the width of the foot to keep me fairly accurate.

I used this lonely spool of Mettler thread I've had forever. It stitched like a dream!

I then gathered the rest of my scraps and stitched together to make more hearts.
I love making these and adding pretty accents with lace, beads or buttons.
So far, I've put out at least 30 of these hearts into the "wild".
Whoever finds one is meant to keep it and hopefully, they will report it on the website.

Only 2 of mine that have been found have been reported.
That's OK. As long as it warms someone's heart and reminds the finder that there is love in this world....and kindness to share.
*my hearts will always have a bit of purple on them!

  1. What a lovely idea, putting hearts out there! I hope in return a lot of love comes to you! Thanks for sharing your lovely teal projects on Wednesday Wait Loss.

  2. I love the staggered rows for your table mat. Yes, Aqua and Teal are such pretty colors. And definitely a struggle to decide which is which as I not too long ago tried for teal but apparently ended up with I’ve been told. Ha! I think the Hearts in the wild is a wonderful idea to express love and kindness.

  3. I love Aqua and Teal too. Great projects and what a great idea for the hearts too!

  4. Love your table mat, and the hearts, so cool.

  5. Pretty table mat Kathy. Love how you quilted it also!

  6. Hi Kathy, aren't you clever to make these lovely hearts and then to spread them around. What a treat for those who find them. You are so right, these shades of teal/turquoise/aqua are so pretty and I don't have any. I need them.

  7. Love your teals and what a refreshing table topper! What cute hearts. I have not heard of these before. Interesting.

  8. Isn't your table runner gorgeous. I'm to the quilting stage and have no idea what I want to do. I really like the straight line look but question whether it will go with my on point blocks... I won't be finishing it in time for this months link up but it will get done! I've not heard of the Found a Quilted Heart Project. Sounds interesting.

  9. What a great use of those small scraps, Kathy!! Such a lovely runner for the TABLE SCRAPS Challenge, too. LOVE your Quilted Heart Project!

  10. Beautiful mat! All the scraps went together perfectly and the leftovers made gorgeous hearts. Win, win!

  11. Your random scraps made a great table topper. I really really like your Aqua heats with a touch of purple! I need to try this!

  12. Turned out perfectly, and the quilting design was genius Jane

  13. Beautiful aqua projects all! Your I found a Heart project is heart warming. I am sure many more of them have found a home than have been reported. I have never found a quilted heart, but I have scattered a few, not part of this particular project page, but I read about something like this one many years ago somewhere and decided to do some on my own. I have never mentioned it on my blog. Shhh ... it is our secret. It is nice to think about the love they have sent into the world. Thank you for sharing in my linky party ... <3 Pat

  14. You did a great job using your aqua scraps. Love the table topper!

  15. So lovely hearts, and I might adopt your great idea.
