Put A Little Love In Your Quilt Blog Hop!

Today, I am among a wonderful group of bloggers who are sharing their projects for the
Put A Little Love In Your Quilt blog hop!
It is hosted by the fabulous Carol S. at Just Let Me Quilt.

The only rules were to sew a project that has a ❤ heart ❤ on it!
I could do that!

I  have long admired Amy Sinibaldi's Merry and Bright Cushion Cover at Nana Company.
Even though her cushion /pillow is made for the Christmas season, I used the pattern tutorial to make a Valentine's pillow!

Using a jelly roll from my stash called Raspberry Parlour by Riley Blake, I knew it would be perfect!

I started by choosing a phrase that I wanted to machine embroider on the ivory colored strips. These strips flank the rows of square patchwork pieces.
Narrowing down a font and size, along with getting those letters lined up takes me forever!
I don't have any embroidery software, so I just wing it.

I embroidered using a dark brown thread rather than black which seemed too  harsh.

I cut 2.5" squares from the jelly roll strips, sewed them together into rows,
then into a rectangle to include my embroidered saying.

It all looked great, but I knew I still needed a heart somewhere on this pillow,
so I cut a 💗 template and set it in the chosen spot.

I also machine embroidered a lacey-looking heart in that spot,
then added a bit of scrap batting to make the heart poofy.

I first stitched the heart applique down giving it a raw-edge, but didn't like it much.
I used some dark brown embroidery thread and started hand-stitching,
adding in some pearl beads every few stitches to give it that extra "pop"!

Using the same embroidery thread, I hand-stitched along the edges of the ivory strips.
I love the sweet touch this adds!

The back of the pillow is a simple folded edge with a pretty fabric strip from the jelly roll.
The 2 pieces overlap.
This makes it easy for me to re-use the pillow form for other pillows
as the seasons and holidays change.

I made this to honor my wonderful husband of almost 35 years!
I will truly love him "forever and always"!

💜💓💖💗💘💙💚💛💟💓❤💕💜

  1. Sweet pillow cover! I love the embellishments that you added--great touch. Your husband should like it a lot! Thanks for sharing. Now, what do I like about Valentine's Day??? Dark chocolate candy, flowers, going out to eat, but maybe the best part is sending valentines to my grandkids (not teaching anymore, so no valentines to the class but grandkids are better anyhow). It's fun picking out just the right valentine for them.

  8. Oh my gosh, that is just too cute. Love all the details in it too. Good choice on using the brown. Mostly cause it reminds me of chocolate, and what better time of the year than now for that! LOL!!!!

  9. Love your pillow. My favorite part of the day is the candy. Love the chocolate, of course, but my favorite is the candy hearts. I have loved getting them in this season since I was a littler kid. Only difference is, I used to get a small box, and now I get a big bag!

  31. Valentine's Day is the one special day of the year that you set aside to show your loved one that they are loved, are cherished and are the only one for you. To me, it is a day of recommitment. With our busy lifestyles, these sentiments are sometimes a challenge to express, but for one day we can be together and celebrate each other. Thanks!

  32. That's a wonderful pillow you've created! An amazing to do that embroidery without software. Your husband will love it! We don't celebrate Valentines Day much around our house - try to remind everyone in our lives they are special all year long!

  33. What a beautiful pillow! I like that Valentine's Day serves as a reminder to tell those that we love how special they are. And nowadays it is more inclusive -- not just for those with significant others, but for friends, children, etc.

  34. Your Valentines pillow turned out so wonderfully! It must have been difficult putting in the "lace" around the heart, and the big-stitch-with-pearls detail on the heart is perfect. Everything is super pretty on it.

  35. Beautiful pillow ... love the embellishments you added. My favorite thing about Valentine's Day is the red jelly hearts.

  37. Oops; should have rad the Rafflecopter first. What I love most about Valentine's day is the knowledge that I get to spend it with the beast man in the world, my husband of almost 50 years, Tom!

  38. I love everything about Valentine's day but probably most are the jewel colors that make me smile. It's also the same month as my birthday so I think of it as my special holiday as well. What a lovely project you've made for your husband. You guys sounds adorable. I love the embroidery. Every now and then I wish I had more of that on my Babylock Crescendo machine.

  39. Such a sweet pillow. I don't have a beau, so I just love chatting with my son, and buying myself a chocolate and fabric treat.

  43. Well, I HAD to come see your pillow. I, too, have long admired her Christmas pillow, super idea to make it Valentine's! Great fabrics too! The beads add that extra ahh! Okay so no software...do you handwrite on the fabric and then hoop it and FMQ embroider (I've done this) the letters? It is beautiful.

    ReplyDelete
  44. All the extras make this pillow so pretty!! I need to learn a lesson from you and start embellishing items more.
